Program Description | A Seismic Engineer is a professional discipline who design, analysis, and evaluation of building structures that are intended to withstand seismic activity, such as earthquakes. They model and examine how seismic forces affect buildings, bridges, and other structures using specialized software and engineering concepts. They also develop and implement plans for retrofitting existing structures to improve their seismic performance. Seismic Engineers play a critical role in ensuring the safety and reliability of structures in seismically active areas. They are responsible for evaluating the risk of seismic activity and determining the appropriate design and construction methods to mitigate it. They also work with architects, builders, and other stakeholders to ensure that the design and construction of new structures meet seismic safety standards. They are also involved in the development of building codes and standards, and provide expert testimony in legal cases related to seismic activity. |
Program Content | This bachelor program provides the most important knowledge and intellectual skills for students to be able to assess earthquake hazards and ground motions, and then to analyze and design structures for earthquake resistance.
